Advanced Master in Electric Vehicle Engineering

Background

Reflecting a widespread desire in industry and government to promote more environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient transport systems, the IVE Specialist Masters programme is offered jointly by four ParisTech Engineering Schools (Arts et Métiers ParisTech, École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées , Mines ParisTech et École des Ponts ParisTech) in partnership with Renault, with the support of the EDF Group and automotive industry associations. The purpose of this innovative and vocational technological programme, directly linked to the needs of tomorrow’s automotive sector, is to provide an in-depth understanding of the technologies that will govern the shift from traditional internal combustion vehicles to electric vehicles.

Objectives

To train specialists in the technologies needed to design the vehicles of the future by offering skills and methods in the following three areas:

  • The first area is largely related to computer science: the need to change human behaviour but also the use of new information technology to produce a virtual autonomy to offset the real loss arising from the use of energy stored in electrical form (less powerful than fossil fuels).
  • The second area is to do with electrical systems. The goal is to provide an understanding of the technological solutions currently employed to perform the different electrical functions used to store and manage energy flows as efficiently as possible within hybrid or electric only vehicles.
  • The third area relates to the impact of this shift on traditional automotive skills. The goal is to revise the methods used in designing and scaling vehicle architecture in the mechanical field, in materials, in acoustics and in mechatronics.

Benefits

This is the first Specialist Masters programme in France to tackle this topic. It reflects strong demand from companies, since there is now a real need to recruit experts in electric vehicle engineering..

Openings

This Masters programme provides access to careers abroad or in France in national/international companies or organisations focusing on the design and production of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and on the development of the infrastructures associated with their use. Graduates can expect to move quickly into positions of high responsibility in an emerging sector, working for large global vehicle manufacturers and their subcontractors. Major sources of recruitment will be:

  • transport equipment companies and car manufacturers
  • passenger transport network operators
  • service enterprises: urban transport providers, car hire companies, taxi operators
  • engineering design offices and consultancies specialising in planning and development, urban design, transport infrastructure management.

Career Opportunities

Programme open to applicants in all sectors associated with the emergence of electric vehicles:

  • Project engineers;;
  • Research engineers ;
  • Economics researchers ;
  • Test engineers ;
  • R&D engineers;
  • Technological procurement engineers;
  • Patent engineers;
  • Environmental process engineers ;
  • Computational engineers.

With experience:
