Building sustainably and innovating

In partnership with Bouygues, École des Ponts ParisTech, École Centrale de Paris, SupElec, CSTB and Fondation des Ponts

Establishment of the Chair

October 2010

Coordinator for École des Ponts:

Jean-François Caron

Objectives:

The fields relating to “building sustainably and innovating” draw on numerous research disciplines: each of them is required for an integrated approach to approaching the construction and operation of buildings. The solution cannot be reduced to a combination of individually optimised systems, but must be approached systemically. It needs to apply measures and solutions based on their performance, the constraints they impose and the synergies they offer, which will produce the optimum result for individual buildings in terms of environmental, societal and economic outcomes. The Chair’s activities will be divided into three components:

  • research,
  • teaching,
  • international influence and knowledge transfer.

Themes:

7 themes have been identified:

  •

  • Innovative materials, structures and envelopes
  • Life-Cycle Analysis
  • Occupants
  • Building control and command
  • Digital modelling of existing buildings
  • Digital modelling of new buildings
  • Building Design
