École des Ponts ParisTech is a founder member of Paris-East University, alongside Paris-East Marne-la-Vallée University.Created in March 2007, Paris-East University is structured into large departments, and incorporates general, technological and vocational research and education within a single interdisciplinary complex.
This continuum between higher education, research and engineering, working in tandem with the companies forming the AdvanCity, Ville and Mobilité Durables Competitiveness Hub, brings the institution international influence through the capacity for scientific production combined with the capacity to attract students, teachers and researchers of the highest calibre.
Cité Descartes is one of the clusters chosen by the Government in its plan for the future of the Paris region. Val Maubuée is expected to be directly affected by two projects:the building of an overhead metro line which will service Noisy-Champs station and the development of the Cité Descartes “excellence hub” around a cluster associated with sustainable development.
The objective of the Descartes cluster is to become a future global model for the construction, maintenance and servicing of the sustainable city. Its goal is to foster the creation of links between research laboratories, universities and grandes écoles, companies and public services. Its role is to leverage connections with the world’s big networks of exchange.
The cluster is centred around Cité Descartes, a locus of scientific and technical excellence and eco-technologies, service and eco-activity hubs (Champigny, Chelles-Vaires, Neuilly-sur-Marne, Noisy-le-Grand and Torcy) as well as the Advancity and Cap Digital competitiveness hubs. The Descartes Cluster provides the momentum behind nine primary axes of economic development:traditional urban services (transport, networks, infrastructures), virtual reality for design and governance, real-time sensors, new urban services, new construction materials, energy in construction and the city, water management and treatment, CO2 storage and “green” finance.

The Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development (MEDDTL) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research have jointly decided to create a world-ranking scientific and technical hub at Marne-la-Vallée, in the heart of Cité Descartes.
