Its aim is to promote dialogue between the social sciences and the engineering world in both the public and private sector. It covers two main empirical domains: organisations (public and private), innovation and work; territorial systems, infrastructures and urban services, local public action. This dual focus – specific to the laboratory – fosters the integration of multiple viewpoints: corporate territorial approaches, industrial approaches to urban services, organisational models in the public and private sector, urban sociotechnical transitions.
Through the involvement of its researchers in education, the laboratory is naturally very involved in courses at the University of Paris-East Marne-la-Vallée. At the same time, researchers at LATTS, whatever their status, are heavily involved in courses at École des Ponts ParisTech, both in the engineering curriculum and in the Masters programmes (École des Ponts ParisTech and University of Paris-East Marne-la-Vallée). In addition, LATTS plays an important role in overseeing three Masters programmes: the Masters in City and Mobility (Masters in planning, heading the specialist second year research Masters programme), the ERIC (Business, Human Resources, Innovation, Communication, Skills) Masters programme (heading the specialist second year research Masters programme) and the specialist AMUR Masters programme on urban development and planning (heading the teaching programme).
