LHSV (Saint-Venant Hydraulics Laboratory)

The Saint-Venant Hydraulics Laboratory, a research unit jointly run by EDF R&D, CETMEF (centre for technical maritime and river studies) and École des Ponts ParisTech, conducts research in the field of fluid mechanics applied to hydraulics and the environment.

Four fields of physics

It covers fields such as free-surface hydraulics in fluvial contexts (lakes and reservoirs, rivers, navigable waterways, etc.), maritime and coastal areas (estuaries, coastal zones, continental seas and oceans), and ports. Research is structured around four themes:

  • Maritime and coastal waves and vagaries (leader: Michel Benoit)
  • Flow and transport dynamics (leader: Nicole Goutal)
  • Flow-structure interactions for constructions and land developments (leader: Damien Violeau)
  • Sediment dynamics for rivers, estuaries and coastal zones (leader: Dan Nguyen)

Joint École des Ponts ParisTech, EDF R&D and CETMEF research lab

  • Permanent staff : 24
  • PhD researchers and postdocs: 12
