The emergence of the concept of sustainable development has greatly increased the demands that materials have to meet: They must be insulating and lightweight to reduce consumption of raw materials and energy, easy to produce and implement, durable and tough, and finally recyclable and reusable at the end of their life cycle. The need to meet all these requirements has generated new challenges, calling for multidisciplinary approaches and the emergence of new academic disciplines. These issues raise multiple questions and finding the solutions is a challenge that is simultaneously scientific, technical, and industrial.
The Masters program provides the scientific grounding required for a multidisciplinary and multi-scale approach to the behavior of materials, to optimizing their manufacture, to their functional properties and durability under specific environmental conditions. Organized into topic modules on physics, mechanics, chemistry, and numerical simulation, and into introductory modules on environmental and energy issues, this program provides a preparation for careers in research and development in cutting-edge firms and research laboratories.
