Prizes and distinctions 2010

Academy of Sciences Grand Prix

  • Tony Lelièvre and Jean-Frédéric Gerbeau (INRIA, former PhD researcher at CERMICS), were awarded the 2010 Prix Alcan, Academy of Sciences Grand Prix, for their work on aluminium electrolysis modelling.
    A graduate of École Polytechnique (X 1996) and École des Ponts ParisTech (2002), Tony Lelièvre was awarded his PhD in applied mathematics in 2004 at Ecole des Ponts. He has been a researcher in applied mathematics at CERMICS since 2005 (École des Ponts ParisTech), where he has also headed the Molecular and Multiscale Simulation Group since 2009. He is also a member of the MicMac project (INRIA). He has been a Professor at École des Ponts ParisTech since 2009.

Médaille CNRS

  • Frédéric KOESSLER, CR CNRS, Paris-Jourdan Economics Laboratory (École des Ponts ParisTech), received a CNRS Bronze Medal 2010 for his work in the field at the Institute of Human and Social Sciences (INSHS).

Science society prizes

  • Romain RANCIERE, a researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (Paris School of Economics), was nominated for the 2010 Prize for the best young French economist by the Economists Circle.

Prizes for publications and lectures

  • Anne AGUILERA, a researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (LVMT) was awarded, with her co-authors, the 2010 APERAU Prize for the best scientific article, for their article “Urban forms, mobilities and segregation. A comparison between Lille, Lyon and Marseille”, published in the journal RTS.
  • François COMBES, a researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (LVMT) received the ETC Prize, Neil Mansfield Award 2010, awarded for the best paper by a young researcher.
  • Eugénie LIORIS a PhD researcher at CERMICS, along with her co-authors Guy Cohen (CERMICS) and Arnaud de la Fortelle (INRIA), received one of the seven “Best Papers Awards” from the “Second International Conference on Advances in System Simulation”.

Thesis prizes

  • Ecole des Ponts ParisTech Thesis Prize 2009 - Pauline Robert-Sainte, PhD researcher at LEESU, received the “2009 Ecole des Ponts ParisTech Thesis Prize” for her thesis on “Contribution of lining materials to metal contamination in urban run-off water”. A special jury prize was awarded to Chloé ARSON for her thesis at the Navier Laboratory on a “Theoretical and numerical study of thermo-hydro-mechanical damage to non-saturated porous media”.
  • Paris-East University Thesis Prize 2010 - Sébastien BOYAVAL, holder of a doctorate from École des Ponts ParisTech (CERMICS) received the 2009 Paris-East University Thesis Prize for the best thesis at the MSTIC doctoral School, for his work on “Mathematical modelling and digital simulation in materials science”. Andreas FRITSCH, holder of a doctorate from École des Ponts ParisTech (NAVIER Laboratory), received the 2009 Paris-East University Thesis Prize for the best thesis from the SIE Doctoral School, for his work on “Multiscale interpretation of the elasticity and resistance of bone and hydroxyapatite, vitroceramic or titanium biomaterials:  an approach based on continuous media micro-mechanics”. Miguel PADEIRO, holder of a PhD from École des Ponts ParisTech (LVMT), received the 2009 Paris-East University Thesis Prize for the best thesis at the VTT Doctoral School, for his work on “The Metro outside the walls: line extensions and urban evolution of the Parisian suburbs”.
  • Nina GUYON, PhD researcher at the Paris Jourdan Economics Laboratory (École des Ponts ParisTech), won the Young Economist Award 2010 (European Economic Association).
  • Chloé ARSON, PhD researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (Navier Laboratory) won the 2010 European ALERT Geomaterials Network Thesis Prize (in equal place with M. Knut, EPFL)
  • Quentin BARRAL, PhD researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (Navier Laboratory), won the Best Poster Prize at the 44th colloquium of the French Rheology Group for his work on “Three-dimensional rheometrics: application to fluids at a boundary”.
  • Juan CARLUCCIO, PhD researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (Paris Jourdan Economics Laboratory), received a special mention for his thesis in the French Economics Association 2010 Prize award.
  • Yongfen QU, PhD researcher at École des Ponts ParisTech (CEREA), received the Best Poster prize at the 13th International Conference on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes for his poster on “Micro-meteorological modeling of radiative and convective effects with a building resolving code”.
  • Sally Zgheib received the ASTEE 2010 research prize for her thesis on “Flows and principal pollution sources in urban water linked with land use”, submitted at École des Ponts ParisTech in December 2009.
