Research is an integral part of the educational process in engineering degrees, Masters level programmes and PhD programmes. Its role starts with the teaching departments contributing to theprocess of defining our students’ future skills requirements, the active presence of researchers in the teaching teams, and continues through practical work and “experimental modules” organised in the research labs, and also through the presence of students in research centres, the management of internships and projects, the tutorial system and the supervision of theses. |
The purpose of this process is to advance knowledge and to enhance the scientific excellence of our research labs, but also to maintain the link between research and potential applications. It very largely takes place in the research units, usually shared with other partner establishments, structured either on by topics around a nucleus of scientific methods, or by a field of application encompassing multiple disciplines.
The research centres always work withenterprises and public institutions in the education they provide.Research activities take the form of research contracts, the funding of theses, internships or projects, and support initiatives. This mechanism maintains a supply of research problems that naturally relate to the concerns of end users, but conversely, it also maintains student awareness of the skills they need to develop (whether at degree, Masters or PhD level). It keeps researchers in contact with economic and social realities and promotes dynamism through the search for external resources.
