Specialist Masters in Urban Planning and Development – Metropolitan Workshop

Workshop leaders: Jacques-Joseph Brac de la Perrière, Nicolas Février

The metropolitan workshop approaches the construction of the modern city from the perspective of the strategic urban project. It asks students to implement tools of analysis, programming and projection that can be used to act within a changing urban context with an uncertain future. The project will be approached from multiple angles and perspectives, combining meetings with stakeholders, historical, social and economic research and the use of different conceptual tools: text, diagrams, photographs, drawings and models.

Alongside the workshop, a 4-session seminar entitled “Contemporary Urbanism” (Françoise Fromonot) provides a critical examination of the methods used in current urban planning. Based on contemporary experiences, this seminar analyses several conceptual and operational strategies, guided by a variety of theoretical perspectives drawn from different historical, cultural and ideological legacies.

Also attached to the workshop is a supervised study module covering graphic representation tools, entitled: “From intention to representation” (Mathieu Voisin).
