The department has been able to develop its cross-disciplinary, multicultural language programmes thanks to the varied professional backgrounds of its highly qualified and experienced native speaker teaching staff. Their diverse international origins provide opportunities for students to increase their understanding of cultural factors in communication. |

Head of the English Section
John Gedge studied English literature at Cambridge University. After two years working as an architectural assistant, he gained a TEFL certificate and went to teach English in Poland. He taught for one year at the University of Krakow, where he also directed “A Midsummer Night's Dream in English, and three years at the Universty of Silesia, where he also worked for the British Council. After studying for a Masters in Linguistics and ELT at Leeds University, he came to live and work in France in September 1980, and began teaching at the ENPC one year later. He sings (sometimes in class, unfortunately), writes poetry, and continues to be interested in architecture and the theatre. Overall English programme coordinator, including enrolments: the man to see if you want to change group. Particularly concerned with literature, architecture, and communication or activity based courses; extracurricular courses (debating, singing, theatre projects); would organise regular grammar clinics or consultations on request. |

Thomas Harcharick Thomas Harcharick is Assistant Head of the DFL. For the English Section, he is in charge of third year abroad and overall coordinator of all internships and university applications in English; our specialist in resumés and cover letters for academic applications. |

Office B120 Stacey Benoit has taught English in the French Grandes Ecoles since 1988 and has been at ENPC since 2006. Originally from Atlanta, she has a Master's in Audiovisual Ethnology and is trained as a Director of Photography. Having worked for many years as a filmmaker, distributor and producer of documentary film, she continues to teach audiovisual production at INA Sup. Courses on food and food issues, TV and Press, Film analysis, Cinema and literature, Speaking and Writing. Video conferencing with students from the US. Works with video and wikis. |

Caroline Preller Caroline studied languages at Cambridge University, (Selwyn College). She has worked in radio, film and theatre in Paris and has travelled as a theatre practitioner, touring in many countries. She has developed her teaching practice around the use of theatre in language-learning working with students in schools and universities. Courses on listening and speaking, theatre and public speaking, literature and active communication skills using debate, acting and movement. Gives TOEIC preparation classes and answers questions relating to the TOIEC. |

Rhoda McGraw Rhoda McGraw has taught English since 1973 at the ENPC, where she is currently in charge of English courses for the MAP. In co-operation with outside institutions and technical departments at the ENPC, she has set up language courses on environment, development, and urban planning. In addition, often at the request of her students, she has designed courses on a range of other subjects, including film, television, and literature. She also has considerable experience as a teacher educator. She enjoys giving talks about her work at seminars and conferences both in France and abroad. Rhoda holds a BA in English from Duke University, an RSA Diploma in TEFL, and a DEA in teaching scientific and technical English from the University of Bordeaux. |
