Language Training Department - DFL

Head of department: Jörg Eschenauer
Assistant Heads: Tina Benis, Thomas Harcharick
Secretary: Monique Schumacher monique.schumacher@École des Ponts.fr

The language training department is developing a truly international education programme which involves the following at various times during the course of the studies:

  • Learning of at least two languages (20% of the total study time): English (mandatory for all students) and a choice of German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Chinese or French as a Foreign Language for foreign students.
  • The international obligation: all students must, during the course of their studies, follow part of their studies or take a course abroad, lasting a minimum of eight consecutive weeks.
  • Assignments in English: to meet the English obligations all students must complete four assignments chosen from a list proposed at the beginning of his/her studies by the English section of the DFL. These assignments are evaluated by the English section team.

The DFL

  • Organises the evaluation and monitoring of the teaching it offers
  • Takes part in evaluating foreign courses jointly with the out-of-school training department (DFA) and in the collective feedback review of them
  • Organises intensive language courses: in China (4 weeks) and at Bell College in Great Britain (3 weeks).
