The School is qualified to issue PhD thesis, since June 1985.
Since 2 007, with the creation of Université Paris-Est, the research and training cluster of the East of Paris, the École des Ponts delegated the attribution of its PhD degree to Paris-Est.
The Doctoral studies department of Université Paris-Est now manages the studies and professional orientation of the doctoral students.

In 2007, 170 doctoral students registered for thesis at École des Ponts. Approximately 50 doctoral students, registered in a laboratory of École des ponts, present their thesis defense each year.


École des Ponts is involved in different partnerships:

• Research centres and research training are now managed within Université Paris-Est, the new cluster comprising universities and research centres located East of Paris.
• Research centres are closely linked with partners such as CNRS, INRETS, INRIA, EDF, LCPC and other member institutes of ParisTech.
• Research centres are involved in the scientific and technical netwok (RST) of the Ministry of Ecology, Energy and Sustainable Development..
