Main features of École des Ponts
École des Ponts is traditionnally considered as belonging to the 5 leading engineering schools in France. Its students are selected through an admission system based on competitive examinations, and are sought after by both companies and public institutions.

École des Ponts is a medium-sized institution, facilitating personal contacts. Students enrolled in the Engineering Degree programme enjoy an individual “learning contract” and are given the opportunity of showing initiative, through:

  • Free choice of a department
  • Free choice of the type of internships (while the search after internships calls for much initiative on the part of the students)
  • Choosing among various possibilities for the 3rd year ( « Research master » programme, double degree or 3rd year abroad, MBA programmes of the École des Ponts).

A series of internships, throughout their curriculum, is meant to introduce the students to the various angles of an engineer’ career, while preparing them to work in a professional context.

A dual education, both technical and managerial, aims at training engineers who are also capable of taking into account economic and social aspects, in order to face up to complex, real-life situations.

Courses develop from a scientific base, through various stages:

  • Scientific courses (mathematics and engineering sciences), during the undergraduate cycle
  • Scientific and technical courses (including a core of main courses, chosen among six programmes), together with courses in management and the social sciences (introduction to Law, management and statistics), during the master’s cycle.
  • Engineering courses, during the master’s cycle only.

A wide network of international partnerships allows students to experience different backgrounds and cultures:

  • Internships abroad
  • Contacts with research laboratories, in France or abroad
  • Professional openings in various fields.
