Context

While our society faces scarcity of natural resource, limitless urbanization and new environmental constraints, Material Science is one of the crucial tools in the design of development policies. Many issues are linked to sustainable development and its application to construction: insulation and acoustics, multifunctional constructions, positive-energy buildings, controlled aging of structures, recycling of materials and structures. Even if in the last few years many progresses have been made, many problems remain to be solved. The only way to meet these new challenges is to combine ideas produced by scientists working in different fields to develop solutions to problem encountered through industrial experience.

Objective

The SMCD Master’s program offers the necessary scientific bases for a multidisciplinary and multi-scale approach to building materials engineering, with the optimisation of their production, their properties in use and their durability under defined environmental conditions.

SMCD Master's Benefits

  • Multidisciplinarity : Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics and Applied Mathematics
  • Opportunityto meet internationally recognized researchers
  • Close contact with industrial concerns
  • Personalised monitoring

The partnership between l'École Polytechnique, École des Ponts ParisTech and Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée University offers the opportunity to gather teachers specialized in different disciplines whose research focuses on building.

Jobs opportunities

The SMCD Master’s Program offers students the prospect of a career in the research and innovation professions. Extended studies in the form of a PhD thesis are recommended.
